Andris Nelsons honoured with the 2016 Glashutte Original Music Festival Award

The Latvian conductor Andris Nelsons’ declared goal is to take musical traditions into the future by means of touching interpretations, making them accessible to listeners of all ages. He wishes to prove to audiences that works by Mahler, Brahms, Shostakovich, Wagner and Bruckner are not merely relics of the past, but part of our world today. In recognition of his efforts to promote and disseminate classical music and music education, Andris Nelsons received the 2016 Glashütte Original MusicFestivalAward during the Dresden Music Festival, when Nelsons conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Dresden’s Frauenkirche.
