Franck Muller unveils Vanguard Gravity

Horlogerie brand Franck Muller introduces an addition to the Vanguard Collection – the Vanguard Gravity – a timepiece that is the symbol of technological excellence teamed with a sporty approach; a watch that combines perfect lines while evoking the remarkable power of its mechanism

Following the success of the Vanguard Collection, Franck Muller’s new offering, the Vanguard Gravity, presents a unique concept of the tourbillon cage that is demonstrated by its innovative elliptical shape and structure in aluminium. The bridge and the pillars of a traditional tourbillon have been turned into a magical and harmonious elliptical circle with diameters of 21.2mm and 7.7mm. An eccentric balance of 14mm further characterises this unconventional tourbillon.

The rubber on the inside of the strap effortlessly takes the form of a daring wrist and makes this model even more harmonious. The strap comes in a variety of finishes including nylon and alligator. They create absolute harmony with the iconic Cintrée Curvex case, which is now the recognised DNA of the brand.

Wholly designed and manufactured in-house, the Vanguard Gravity is available in titanium, stainless steel and 18-carat gold. This sporty collection offers a dynamic choice of colourful variants for the bridge. Directly inspired by the universe of astronomy, the Gravity Collection is truly the demonstration of a futuristic journey.

It all began in 1983, when after months of research and dedication, Franck Muller presented his first wristwatches, all of which had a complicated movement that had been created solely by him. Every year since then, he has succeeded in unveiling a World Premiere, assembling complications that have never been created before.

The first tourbillon was created more than 200 years ago in an attempt to achieve greater accuracy for timepieces. Recognising it for the important scientific invention that the tourbillon was, Franck created, for the first time ever, a tourbillon visible from the front. His revolutionary new design and subsequent Grand Complications became the cornerstone for Franck Muller being recognised as the “Master of Complications”.

The brand began to take shape in 1991, when Franck met Vartan Sirmakes, who challenged him to turn a small volume production into the prestigious brand and enterprise that Franck Muller is today.

From its first public appearance, the Cintrée Curvex case has consistently captured the hearts of watch aficionados. At that time, there were plenty of round watches and perhaps a few rectangular ones, but there was nothing like Franck Muller’s Curvex – a tonneau curved body in three dimensions, the production of which involved great technical difficulties in manufacturing.

Similarly, Franck Muller timepieces became instantly recognisable for the unique and beautiful designs of their numerals.  The dials on the Cintrée Curvex models are very complex to produce as they must be perfectly curved to follow the shape of the case, but must still have the best guilloche, printing quality and precision.
