Graff introduces The Golden Empress
Luxury jewellers, Graff, has added a remarkable 132.55 carat fancy, intense yellow gem, titled The Golden Empress to the brand’s ever expanding portfolio of jewels

The discovery of a coloured gem is always a reason to celebrate. It is also a responsibility – to showcase the miraculous brilliance of the masterpiece created by the elements of nature. So when Graff discovered an opaque, 299 carat rough diamond from the Letšeng mine in Lesotho, the potential to craft a gem that could join its hall of noble, historic and world famous stones was a thrilling prospect.

In the past, Graff has created exceptional diamonds like The Delaire Sunrise, the largest square emerald cut, fancy vivid yellow diamond in the world at 118.08 carats. Other spectacular diamonds are The Gemini Yellows at 51.29 carats and 55.74 carats, and the 100.09 carat Graff Vivid Yellow. The revered brand is involved in every stage of the jewellery making process – from the sourcing of each rough stone, right through to the cutting, polishing and final setting of each exquisite jewel. Graff’s senior gemmologists carefully assess the stone for the secrets hidden within its infinite depths. It was at this point that the distinct personality of the Golden Empress was revealed – an inextricably feminine and intensely warm, molten-like glow radiates from the very core of this majestic diamond.
Coloured diamonds refract and reflect light differently to white diamonds, and have to be cut accordingly to ensure that the jewel’s individual saturation, tone and hue is enhanced. This difference is what required Graff’s artisan cutters and polishers to articulate the facets to encourage light in, igniting the fire within, whilst not losing any of its original colour. Their instinctive passion and respect for diamonds has resulted in a 132.55 carat Fancy Intense cushion cut diamond that is being celebrated this year.
