Greubel Forsey makes over Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision in red gold

The award-winning Greubel Forsey timepiece, Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision, receives a face lift this year which paved the way for its case in red gold and dial in anthracite hue

Renowned for creating extremely sophisticated timepieces, Greubel Forsey has received once again the top accolade “Aiguille d’Or” at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) that took place on the 29th October 2015. This is the second time that this most prestigious prize has been awarded to a Greubel Forsey creation, following on from the Double Tourbillon 30° Édition Historique in 2010.

To celebrate this award, the renowned Swiss independent watch company revealed a red gold showcase for the 2015 Aiguille d’Or at a highly anticipated presentation at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) 2016. This year, Greubel Forsey unveils an all-new version of the Tourbillon 24 Secondes Vision, which stands out by virtue of its sobriety and simplicity of appearance. The white gold case has made way for red gold, while the solid gold dial has adopted an anthracite colour, with enamel hour markers – a striking contrast which creates an air of assured elegance. The 43.5mm x 13.65mm case keeps its slender proportions, while in order to house and display the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, a sapphire dome has been carved out on the timepiece’s display back, which forms a subtle vertical asymmetry.

Functioning as hours, minutes, small seconds and power reserve indicator, this timepiece is the absolute essence of refinement with its enamelled indications on the solid gold dial, the hand-finished hands, or the lower tourbillon bridge, whose “barrelled and polished” surface requires extremely rare expertise. Each bridge is discreetly signed by the Movement Finisher who completed it. Its power comes from the hand-wound Caliber GF01r with 24-second tourbillon inclined at a 25-degree angle, which features free-sprung variable-inertia balance, 72 hours power reserve (twin fast-rotating spring barrels), and 21,600 VpH.

By simply turning the timepiece over, the extent of its subtle originality is revealed – it presents two distinct faces. On the front, the lines exude an almost neoclassical purity. Meanwhile the movement side plunges us into a world of extreme-precision mechanics.
