MB&F HM3 MegaWind harnesses time and power

Strong contrasts both catch the eye and engage the mind, making the HM3 MegaWind a truly unique timepiece that took over six years to manufacture, becoming MB&F’s most popular model

Limited to just 25 individually numbered timepieces, the MB&F HM3 MegaWind is a masterpiece in the art of contrasts with around 19 different variations. Luminous yet dark, polished surfaces and matte finishes, precious metals with hard-working steel and titanium, tradition and avant-garde and bright colours against monochromatic tones all capture one’s eye, forcing the viewer to admire the true beauty of the latest MB&F creation.

The MegaWind Final Edition is the closing model in the HM3 range, featuring a black PVD treated 18k gold case and a blackened 22k gold and titanium winding rotor which illuminates the dark with a bright green glow of GL C3 Grade A Super-LumiNova, the latest high-performance substance available in the market. Not only is it the brightest,  but it is also the purest form of luminescent material, recognisable by its typical green hue; while Super-LumiNova comes in many colours, the active pigments are always green and other colours partially mask the green glow.

In line with the HM3 series, MB&F’s MegaWind combines an oversized winding rotor dial with a highly-legible time indication in Sapphire Crystal three-dimensional sculptures where hours are displayed on the left, and the minutes are on the right. An exceptionally-skilled artisan painstakingly applies SuperLumiNova on these conical indications by hand, using a small specially designed syringe that allows careful application.

At the top of the dial a giant battle-axe shaped winding rotor mesmerises the eye as it swings leisurely over the carefully hand-finished movement.  The rotating hours and minutes cones are powered by a precise HM3 engine, where the inverted movement could only have been created with the use of two large high-tech ceramic bearings that measure 15mm in diameter and are visible through the case back. The complex movement consists of 270 fine-finished, high-precision components, 36 jewels, crafted bridges, and a rapidly oscillating balance wheel that pulses at 28,800 VpH.

Measuring 47mm x 50mm x 17mm, the black PVD-treated case is crafted in 18k white gold and titanium and consists of over 50 separate components. Careful attention to detail shows a bevelled perimeter of the rotor display crystal, bespoke clover-head gold screws, a screwed-down crown and the cleverly integrated lugs securing the black hand-stitched alligator strap in place.

HM3 was first presented in 2009 and in its six years of production became MB&F’s most popular model. The case and movement architecture have given rise to no fewer than 19 different variations: HM3 Starcruiser in red and white gold, HM3 Sidewinder in red and white gold, HM3 ReBel, JWLRYMACHINE in purple and pink versions, HM3 Frog Ti, HM3 Chocolate Frog, HM3 Black Frog (green rotor), HM3 Frog Zr (purple rotor), HM3 Fire Frog, HM3 Poison Dart Frog, MoonMachine in titanium, black and red gold variations, MegaWind in red and white gold and last, but certainly not least, MegaWind Final Edition.
