OMEGA pays tribute to Solar Impulse project

Swiss luxury watch-maker, OMEGA has created a timepiece to honour the brands pioneering spirit and its relationship with the Solar Impulse project

OMEGA and its Solar Impulse partners have successfully tapped into the power of the sun to address our planet’s pending ecological crisis and just ahead of the Solar Impulse round-the-world journey. The brand has unveiled a new addition to its legendary Speedmaster family: the Speedmaster Skywalker X-33 Solar Impulse that is a limited edition of 1,924 pieces.

Crafted from lightweight grade 2 titanium, the 45mm brushed case features a blue ceramic bezel that has been treated with white Super-LumiNova. The blue and green outer ring, with its white indexes and Super-LumiNova-coated hour markers, has a central opening allowing the wearer to read the grey coloured liquid crystal display digital numbers on a black dial, such as the hour, minute and seconds of up to three different time zones. The watch also features three alarms, chronograph and countdown functions and a perpetual calendar with day, date, month, year and week number indications.

Black and white hour and minute hands emits a green light when the environment is dark. The black and green central seconds hand is clearly visible against the dark backdrop of the dial, however all three hands can be disengaged to allow a clearer reading of the digital display.  Powered by the multi-functional quartz chronograph movement, OMEGA calibre 5619, the watch features both analogue and digital displays, and has two functions that will prove useful for the pilots: mission elapsed time (MET) and phase elapsed time (PET).
