Panerai renews commitment for Transat Classique 2015

Officine Panerai has renewed its commitment to sponsor the old-fashioned adventure sport that has captivated sporting sailors from around the world

On the 7th of January 2015, a marvellous fleet of vessels cast off from the island of Lanzarote on an exciting race of over 2,800 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean to Fort-de-France in Martinique. Sponsoring the event for the second consecutive occasion, Officine Panerai presented the owner of the victorious yacht with an exclusive watch from its collection.is

The Atlantic Yacht Club’s partnership with Officine Panerai first began in 2012 and was seen as a natural extension of the Florentine luxury sports watch-maker’s commitment to classic sailing. In this prestigious regatta, the transatlantic fleet is restricted to classical and vintage yachts of any size from various eras in the history of sailing. The oldest competitor is the extraordinary gaff schooner, Adventuress that was built in 1924 by renowned Scottish naval designer, William Fife III. At 31 metres in length, she came second in size to the only other Fife schooner that raced; the 40-metre-plus Altair that was built in 1931.

The Panerai Transat Classique 2015 has all the excitement you’d expect from a genuine ocean race as rival crews pit their wits against the weather and each other. Eager fans were able to follow the race in real time on the Panerai Transat Classique website. The participating boats made landfall at Martinique at the end of January 2015.
