Pasquale Bruni unveils new Atelier Collection in Dubai

The founder and namesake of the famed Italian fine jewellery brand personally made a trip to the Emirate to join Damas in launching the scintillating new range of gem-encrusted pieces

While still very young, Pasquale Bruni began a journey that would one day see him become a widely respected and admired name in fine jewellery. Bruni launched his first collection when he was just twenty-years-old, and his imaginative use of precious stones, shapes, colours, and consistent research in his craft has led to creation of phenomenal jewellery that established the powerful jewellery brand of Pasquale Bruni. Today, Pasquale and Eugenia Bruni, the founder’s daughter and Creative Director of the brand, personally oversee the work involved in all the stages creating and producing Pasquale Bruni jewellery. Simple yet unique shapes; rare gems and shimmering stones characterise the distinctive, unusual yet harmonious style of the designer’s collections. The charismatic Mr Bruni sat down with “Day & Night” magazine for a quick chat while he was in town.

What brings you to Dubai?

This trip is about saying thank you to our distributor in Dubai, Damas, and about joining them in presenting our new special collection that is dedicated to Dubai – it is a great occasion for us, and also a great way to show our appreciation to the people who are putting in the effort to develop the brand.

Please tell me about the collection

The Atelier Collection is constantly developing, but now we are introducing select pieces especially for this city. We have made use of rare precious stones in many of the pieces, more specifically tanzanite. The pieces are more like works of art because of the way they were made.  The new philosophy of Pasquale Bruni is to create something that is very unique, with different shapes and materials, using wax moulds. These pieces go against technologically-crafted versions of jewellery, which are more like mechanical interpretations that do not have any soul; the new Atelier jewellery is much more like art, the pieces have character and soul. All of the pieces feature stones that I personally selected, one of greatest challenges today is getting the right stones to create jewellery, because of global demands, precious stones are becoming very rare, so selecting the right ones for our jewellery has become a bit of a challenge.

You are considered one of the greatest fine jewellers in the world, what is the secret to your success?

I started working with jewellery from a very young age, gathering lots of expertise in my trade. I would say that creativity and knowledge are the primary contributors to my success as a jeweller.

Pasquale Bruni creations are being flaunted by a number of celebrities and some of the world’s most beautiful women, how does that make you feel?

It is very emotional, just to look at a girl or woman wearing Pasquale Bruni. In a way it does not matter to me who wears my jewellery, whether it is a celebrity or a holidaymaker in Tuscany, it brings me great happiness just to see beautiful women wearing Pasquale Bruni.
