Chopard creations sparkle throughout Cannes Film Festival

2015 marks the 60th anniversary of the Palme d’Or which is the highest award presented at the Cannes Film Festival, and is crafted from ethical Fairmined gold by Chopard. Recognised as the Official partner to the festival, Chopard is celebrating the most anticipated event in the film industry’s calendar by launching jewellery collections inspired by the curves of the Palme

The enduring symbol of the Cannes Film Festival, the Palme d’Or has not always been in the form in which we know it today. This supreme award has experienced several transformations since the creation of the Festival, prior to attaining it’s most noble and successful state in the Chopard workshops resulting in the most coveted trophies of the Festival. This year, the superior award was presented to Jacques Audiard, for his Sri Lankan refugee drama titled, ‘Dheepan.’

Day and Night Magazine bring you a day-by-day outlook at the celebrities, their Chopard jewels and some of the events surrounding the publicised occasion, that took place in May, 2015:

Opening Ceremony – Wednesday 13th May 2015
The Cannes Film Festival kicked off on the 13th of May to a successful start with celebrities waltzing the Red Carpet in Haute Couture coupled with the finest jewellery pieces in the world. 2015 Academy Award winner, Julianne Moore wore a pair of pear-shaped emerald earrings, totalling 52 carats, set with white diamonds in platinum from the Red Carpet Collection, and an octagonal step-cut emerald ring set in white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold.

2014 Academy Award winner, Lupita Nyong’o adorned her look with a pair of pink quartz earrings with rubellites and white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, an amethyst ring with tanzanite, tsavorites and white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, an aquamarine ring with amethyst, tanzanites and white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, which all belong to Chopard’s Temptations Collection. She also wore a white diamond bead necklace, totalling 41 carats, set in 18-karat rose gold and a marquise-cut white diamond ring set in 18-karat white gold.

Member of the Jury, American actor Jake Gyllenhaal selected a L.U.C 1937 Classic timepiece with a silver dial set in 18-karat rose gold on a black leather strap, whilst another member of the Jury, French actress Sophie Marceau wore three white diamond bead necklaces, totalling 270 carats set in 18-karat white gold, a white diamond bracelet set in 18-karat white gold and a pair of white diamond stud earrings.

Chopard ambassadress, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing dazzled in a pair of earrings featuring pear-shaped emeralds and white diamonds  set in 18-karat yellow gold, a white diamond bracelet set in 18-karat white gold, an emerald-cut emerald ring set with white diamond pave in platinum and a round-cut diamond ring set in 18-karat white gold.

French Actress Emmanuelle Beart wore a pair of white diamond hoop earrings set in 18-karat white gold, a white diamond bracelet set in 18-karat white gold and two ashoka-cut white diamond rings set in platinum. Whereas, Chinese actress Zhao Tao wore a pair of marquise-cut white diamond chandelier earrings set in 18-karat white gold.

Model, Doutzen Kroes wore a marquise-cut white diamond bracelet set in 18-karat Fairmined white gold and a marquise-cut white diamond ring set in 18-karat Fairmined white gold, both from Chopard’s Green Carpet Collection, whilst Indian actress Katrina Kaif wore a pair of white diamond drop earrings set in 18-karat white gold and a pear-shaped diamond bracelet set in 18-karat white gold.

Caroline Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, wore a pair of pear-shaped emerald earrings, totalling 68 carats, from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection set with white diamonds in platinum and 18-karat white gold.  She also wore an emerald ring set with white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold.

Mad Max Premiere – Thursday 14th May 2015
Actress Charlize Theron adorned her look with a pair of white diamond earrings set in 18-karat white gold, a diamond ring set in 18-karat white gold, and a pear-shaped diamond ring set on a band of diamond pave in 18-karat white gold whilst preparing for the screening of action movie Mad Max at the Cannes Film Festival.

Also in attendance was 2015 Academy Award winner Julianne Moore, who chose to wear a pair of pear-shaped white diamond earrings set in 18-karat white gold, a rose-cut white diamond ring set on a band of white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold and a white diamond ring from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection, featuring a duo of emerald-cut diamonds and diamond pave set in 18-karat white gold.

Chopard ambassadress, Chinese actress Fan Bingbing sparkled in a pair of aquamarine earrings featuring amethysts, tanzanites and white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold from Chopard’s Temptations Collection, a fancy colour diamond bracelet with white diamonds set in 18-karat yellow gold and 18-karat rose gold, a round brilliant-cut white diamond ring with a white diamond band set in 18-karat white gold and an oval-shaped Paraiba tourmaline ring from the Red Carpet Collection featuring marquise-cut white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold.

Other personalities at the screening were; Lola Kirke, who wore a pair of white diamond cluster earrings set in 18-karat white gold and a sapphire ring set on a band of white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold and Jack O’Connell, who selected a L.U.C XP Skeletec timepiece with a grey dial set in 18-karat rose gold on a black leather strap.

15th edition of the Trophée Chopard – Friday 15th May 2015
This year also marks the 15th edition of the Trophée Chopard, in partnership with Variety magazine. On the 15th of May, in a ceremony held at the Chopard Rooftop of the Martinez Hotel and attended by Pierre Lescure and Thierry Frémaux – respectively President and Director of the Cannes Film Festival – Lola Kirke and Jack O’Connell received their 2015 awards from the hands of Julianne Moore, the prestigious godmother of this 15th edition ceremony.

The after party was a well-attended celebration, where many guests sported Chopard jewels. Julianne Moore dazzled in pair of blue sapphire earrings set in 18-karat white gold, and a blue sapphire ring set in 18 karat white gold, whilst actress Lola Kirke wore a pair of white diamond earrings set in 18-karat white gold, a marquise-cut white diamond ring set in white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold and an emerald sugarloaf ring set with diamonds. Actor Jack O’Connell selected a L.U.C XP timepiece with a black dial set in 18-karat white gold on a black leather strap.

Carol Premiere – Sunday 17th May 2015
Model and socialite Poppy Delevingne shone at the premiere of Carol, a drama movie directed byTodd Haynes, with a unique necklace from the Haute Joaillerie Collection set in 18-karat white gold as well as a unique Toi&Moi ring featuring two emerald-cut diamonds of 5cts each paved with diamonds set in 18-karat white gold.

Also present was Elettra Weidemann, who dazzled in a floral necklace featuring pear-shaped and round cut emeralds and pear-shaped and round cut diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, a ring featuring a heart-shaped emerald with diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, and an eternity band featuring emerald-cut diamonds from Chopard’s High Jewellery Collection.

German model, Toni Garnn adorned her look with a necklace from the Red Carpet Collection featuring rose-cut diamonds and a diamond band, whereas Lindsay Ellingson sparkled on the red carpet wearing a pair of earrings with two pear-shaped Paraiba tourmalines, quarts and diamonds set in 18-karat white gold, and a ring from the Temptations Collection featuring a 5 cts pear-shaped aquamarine, amethyst, tanzanites and diamonds.

GOLD evening event – Monday 18th of May 2015
Chopard’s annual grand soirée is one of the most sought-after events of the Cannes film festival fortnight. This year, guests of the renowned jewellery house were able to enjoy an exceptional concert by Robbie Williams amid the stunning decor of a reconstituted gold mine, at Port Canto. In keeping with the theme of gold adopted by Chopard for all its activities during the Festival in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Palme d’Or, the GOLD soirée immersed guests into the heart of a stunning reconstituted gold mine, complete with tunnel reminiscent of a mine entrance, “nugget-style” chairs, lush tropical vegetation and a bridge built across the whole venue with mine wagons featuring the letters GOLD.

Amid this remarkable setting, models wore Chopard’s latest Red Carpet creations and were dressed by Elie Saab in golden gowns. Among them, were famed personalities such as; Uma Thurman, who sparkled in a pair of diamond earrings from the Red Carpet Collection, and a diamond bracelet, set in 18-karat white gold. Whereas, Czech model Petra Nemcova wore a pair of earrings featuring rubies and white diamonds set in platinum and a rose-cut ruby bracelet with white diamonds set in titanium.

Chinese actress, Fan Bingbing showcased her look with emerald earrings set with diamonds in platinum from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection, an octagonal-step-cut emerald set on a band of white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold and an L’Heure Du Diamant timepiece with white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold.

Other stars seen in the Maison’s creations were; American model and socialite Elettra Wiedemann, who wore a pair of pink quartz drop earrings, among other stunning pieces and Brazilian Model Adriana Lima, who selected a pair of white diamond drop earrings. British model, Poppy Delevingne wore a sapphire and diamond necklace set in 18-karat white gold and a pear-shaped sapphire ring with white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold. Whereas Indian Actress Sonam Kapoor shimmered in a pair of white diamond earrings set in 18-karat rose gold and a butterfly ring featuring white diamonds, pink diamonds, yellow diamonds and brown diamonds set in 18-karat rose gold from Chopard’s Animal World Collection.

Sicario Premiere – Tuesday 19th May 2015
A host of celebrities chose Chopard creations for the premiere of ‘Sicario,’ a mystery movie directed by Denis Villeneuve. Chopard Ambassadress, Czech model Petra Nemcova sparkled in a diamond butterfly necklace that totalled 49 carats and was set in 18-karat white gold, and an aquamarine ring with amethyst, tanzanites and diamonds from the Temptations Collection set in 18-karat white gold.

Brazilian Model Adriana Lima wore a pair of briolette-cut emerald earrings with white diamonds set in 18-karat white gold from Chopard’s Copacabana Collection, a white diamond heart ring set with diamond pave in 18-karat white gold and a white diamond bracelet set in 18-karat white gold, whist American Model and Socialite Elettra Wiedemann adorned her look with a pair of white diamond chandelier earrings set in 18-karat white gold, an ashoka-cut white diamond bracelet set in platinum and a marquise-cut white diamond ring set with brilliant diamonds in 18-karat white gold.

Other celebrities spotted in Chopard jewels at the exclusive screening were; Irina Shayk, who wore a cushion-shaped ruby ring, Dutch-Turkish actress Azra Akin, who dazzled with a pair of a white diamonds drop earrings set in 18-karat white gold and Thai Actress, Araya Hargate wore a pair of rose-cut white diamond drop earrings from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection.

Annabel’s in Cannes Party – Wednesday 20th May 2015
Swiss Maison, Chopard and famed London club, Annabel’s, held an exclusive evening infused with a distinguished, gentlemanly atmosphere on the Chopard Rooftop. In attendance were; special guests actor Jake Gyllenhaal, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, driver Romain Dumas, along with personalities such as Robin Thicke, David Gandy, Petra Nemcova, Oliver Cheshire, Kristina Bazan, Gala Gonzalez and Imogen Waterhouse.

English model, David Gandy wore a Mille Miglia 2015 timepiece featuring a red dial set in stainless steel, whilst English model, Oliver Cheshire selected a L.U.C XP Skeletec timepiece featuring a grey dial set in 18-karat rose gold. Pixie Lott sported a diamond bead necklace set in 18-karat white gold, a cushion cut white diamond ring with a diamond pave band set in 18-karat white gold, whist Dita Von Teese opted for a floral white-diamond necklace, earrings, ring and brooch suite from Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection set in 18-karat white gold.

The Little Prince Premiere – Friday 22nd May 2015
Marion Cotillard and Caroline Scheufele combined their creativity and their commitment to sustainable luxury through the Green Carpet Collection, by designing a one-of-a-kind jewellery piece that Marion wore on the red carpet to the premiere of the ‘The Little Prince.’ The Art Deco-inspired piece of hand jewellery consists of a multi-row bracelet made of diamonds and opals connected by a delicate chain also set with opals and diamonds to a ring adorned with a magnificent 8.6cts black opal.

Also at the premiere were; German model, Toni Garrn who showed off her look with a white diamond bracelet set in 18-karat white gold, a ring from the L’Heure du Diamant Collection featuring white diamonds and a ruby set in 18-karat white gold and a diamond ring set in 18-karat white gold and English model, Jourdan Dunn who wore a pair of sapphire briolette earrings from the Copacabana Collection set with white diamonds in 18-karat white gold, a pear-shaped sapphire ring set with white diamonds in 18-karat white gold, an oval shaped sapphire ring set with white diamonds in 18-karat white gold and a cushion shaped sapphire ring set with white diamonds in 18-karat white gold.

Closing ceremony at the Palais des Festivals – Sunday 24th May 2015
On Sunday, the busiest event of the film industry came to a close with stars sporting more of Chopard’s creations; Member of the Jury, Jake Gyllenhaal selected a L.U.C 1937 Classic timepiece with a silver dial set in 18-karat rose gold on a black leather strap and American actress, Michelle Rodriguez competed her look with a white diamond briolette necklace set in 18-karat white gold and a cushion-cut white diamond ring set on a band of white diamond pave in 18-karat white gold.

Member of the Jury, French Actress Sophie Marceau wore a pair of white diamond chandelier earrings set in 18-karat white gold and an ashoka-cut white diamond ring set in platinum, whereas Chinese actress, Yun Zhou sparkled in a pair of earrings featuring rose-cut diamonds in 18-karat white gold, a ring showcasing an emerald-cut diamond solitaire in 18-karat white gold and a bracelet with heart shaped diamonds in 18-karat white gold from Chopard’s High Jewellery Collection.

Other celebrities spotted in Chopard jewels were; Spanish actress Rossy de Palma, who wore a pair of earrings featuring white diamonds, pastel pink sapphires, coral pearls, white opals and pink opals set in 18-karat white gold and a white diamond swan ring from Chopard’s Animal World Collection featuring black diamonds, yellow diamonds and onyx set in 18-karat white gold and Belgian actress Cécile de France, who shone in a pair of white diamond earrings set in 18-karat white gold and a cushion-shaped sapphire ring set on a band of white diamond pave crafted in 18-karat white gold.
