Graham races ahead with precision time-keeping

Graham’s presence in the horology world is not random. Designers of impressive sizes, fancy colours and bold designs, the brand takes pride in the high-precision technical features that accompany each watch

Founded in the 18th century by British watchmaker, George Graham who was renowned for his inventions of the start and stop device of the chronograph in 1725, the dead-beat and cylinder escapement and the mercury pendulum, just to name a few. Previously lost in time, Graham was re-invented in 1995 to become a Swiss open-minded brand that does not set limits to technology and aesthetics, as innovation is incorporated into the DNA of the brand, which offers contemporary outstanding timepieces with an undisputable technical know-how of a true Swiss-based manufacture. For example, the trend-setter Chronofighter timepiece that features the renowned Graham signature: the trigger on the left side of the case which guarantees the most instinctive and fastest use of the chronograph functions. Another remarkable collection is the Silverstone, which connotes an impressive array of racing skills and adrenaline. The fast chronographs in this line, feature racing colours that are enhanced by sophisticated functions. This year Graham brings a new appeal to existing collections.

Geo.Graham Tourbillon
The Geo.Graham Tourbillon pays homage to Sir Isaac Newton, with its extreme thinness and graceful curves. Employing the laws of physics, the automatic watch plays with the principles of gravity by featuring antipodes with the tourbillon which is designed to overcome gravitational issues contrary to the micro-rotor which is used to wind the movement. Graham was determined to preserve the long-standing tradition of high precision timepieces from the Age of Enlightenment even though the tourbillon hadn’t yet been developed. The latest offering boasts an attractive and mechanically completed movement of the Geo.Graham 60-second Tourbillon that is held by two sapphire glass boxes on the front and back of the piece, giving the impression of it floating in the air. The domed sapphire crystal offers a see-through view on the beauty of the mechanism that is a smart representation of traditional luxury watch making.

Chronofighter Oversize Superlight
The Chronofighter is an exemplary stopwatch series. Back in the forties, during the allied bomber raids, pilots needed to know how many seconds flight they were past a certain landmark. High up, very cold, being shot at and of course wearing gloves, they needed a specially designed stopwatch and the Chronofighter fit the bill. The big, generously designed crown lever along with a legible dial that is powered by a precision mechanical movement were vital elements for a watch designed for missions that were undertaken by pilots under pressure. However, pilots are not the only people for whom elapsed time is a critical element, other professions such as divers, racers and explorers will find the Chronofighter series the answer to split-second timing in extraordinary environments. The new Chronofighter Oversize Superlight is crafted from carbon nanotubes, and is a limited edition of 88 pieces, weighing under 100g in weight. Striking and wild, the watch was developed for racing-car drivers and watch making connoisseurs that favour adrenaline. The timepiece is dedicated to measuring average speed with the featured tachymeter scale and a reversed minute’s counter with a white painted indicator to show the starting point.

Silverstone
The Silverstone range is a modern watch oozing classic style. For the year 2015, two new models have been launched; the Silverstone RS GMT and the Silverstone RS Racing. The elegant GMT combines an impressive range of sophisticated functions such as chronograph, GMT, big date, tachymeter and flyback with a singular and well-groomed aesthetic appeal.  The model enables a precise time measurement with an easy-to-read GMT function that illustrates two time zones and also allows owners to check average speed with the use of the tachymeter. The racing model is dedicated to speed and intensity with its racing colour dials that recall car dashboards and tyre tread rubber straps. The chronographs feature a tachymeter function and a day date at 3 o’clock for a more precise time measurement that is enhanced by a steel case and composite ring with subtle touches of colour under the bezel. The watch also features authentic references to racing such as the second’s counter shaped like a brake disc or the checkerboard pattern dial with 12-hour and 30-minute counters. At 9 o’clock the seconds counter is automobile brake disc-shaped to ensure dynamic reading of the sweep seconds. Available separately or in a trilogy set, the Silverstone RS Racing can definitely take the heat and knows all about endurance.
