Cartier turns the key for its new Cle de Cartier range

A simple shape, a simple line and a simple allure – this is the new Cle de Cartier collection. A stunning range of emblematic timepieces that have stood the test of time

Intrinsic to Cartier’s history as a creative watchmaker, is a spirit of innovation and pioneering ethos that is illustrated in iconic timepieces such as Santos, Tank, Ballon Bleu and 2015. The Cle de Cartier is no exception; this remarkable collection is designed for both men and women and comes in a range of variations that highlight the prominent crown.  The distinct innovative crown is the inspiration behind the name of the collection, as ‘cle’ in French actually translates to ‘key’, where the crown resembles the function of an actual key. To reset the date and time, the key needs to be turned as a lock might be opened. Its sizeable dimensions and elongated length make it easier to handle but functionality is not its sole asset.  The crown is adorned with a dazzling sapphire that is set flush with the metal surrounding it adding an eye-catching aesthetic to the exterior.

The Maison’s primary concept for the new line was to create a tightly-drawn curve that fits snugly around the wrist of the wearer, whilst achieving a perfect circular case. The sleek streamlined arch is visible once the watch is held sideways and allows ease and comfort that is paramount to the values of Cartier’s designs.  Sharp edges are eliminated and the bezel is gently rounded leading to smooth tapered horns that support the strap. Powered by an automatic 1847 MC calibre that was entirely built in-house by skilled craftsmen at the Cartier Manufacture in Switzerland, the movement has a diameter of 25.6mm and a power reserve of 42 hours.

The men’s line heralds a certain charm. A look that exudes strength and masculinity in a design that reaches out to those of refined taste. The 40mm case comes in 18K pink or white gold and has a guilloché dial that boasts Roman numerals. On the outer track are black minute markers that are pointed to by sleek blue hands and at the 6 o’clock position is the date aperture.  The ladies range is a fine balance between strength and elegance. The diamond set bezel adds a special touch and comes in a 31mm 18K pink gold case with a brown leather strap or pink gold bracelet and a 35mm 18K white gold case on a white gold bracelet or pink leather strap. The third option is for those who like a little more panache in their jewellery – a fully set 35mm diamond wristwatch in 18K white gold.
