Successful polar explorers rely on Alpina Horological Smartwatch

Acclaimed polar explorers and Alpina brand ambassadors, Børge Ousland and Vicent Colliard, completed an unaided crossing of one of Alaska’s most dangerous glaciers – The Stikine Ice-field

The Norwegian polar explorer, Børge Ousland, has clocked up more than 20 years of record-breaking expeditions, and has partnered with the young French adventurer, Vincent Colliard, to accomplish yet another milestone in the Alpina & Ice Legacy Project. This is a long-term project aiming to cross the world’s twenty largest glaciers within a space of ten years, where the first successful expedition took place in 2014 in the Main Spitsbergen Glacier. The aim of the project is to raise awareness about what impacts on the world’s glaciers and to collect scientific data for the preservation of these important natural features.

The latest successful crossing undertaken by the two explorers was on Alaska’s southernmost ice field – The Stikine Ice-field. The unaided Skitine Ice-Field crossing marked the Ice Legacy Project’s second installment among the twenty to be undertaken in a decade as well as resulted to walking and skiing a total distance of 170km in merely 16 days.

In such extreme conditions, Ousland and Colliard depended on the reliable Alpina Horological Smartwatch to measure data on their activity through the Motion X tracking system, where the watch senses the movements and offers the most accurate data to assist in a healthier lifestyle. Moreover, with the IOS and Android multi-compatibility, the Alpina smartwatch always provides information in real time.
