Glashütte Original’s two new editions of Excellence

The watchmaker adds Senator Excellence Panorama Date and Senator Excellence Panorama Date MoonPhase to the Collection that houses its manufactory Calibre 36

The Senator Excellence Panorama Date places the watchmaker’s well-known date display at centre stage. The mounting of two concentric display discs on the same level enables the presentation of the two-numeral date without the central separation bar, while a precise jumping mechanism enables even greater precision when the date changes at midnight.

A softly rounded window integrates the display into the dial in an elegant manner, and two subtle steps enhance, like a passe-partout, the impression of visual depth. The printed numerals are set off in deep black from the ivory-coloured ground.

The Senator Excellence Panorama Date Moon Phase combines the date display with the moon phase complication. A silvery moon is glimpsed through a softly curving dial window between 10 and 11 o'clock – the result of careful diamond milling that renders the elegant curve of the moon set off by a starry, galvanic blue sky.

Both functions are distinguished by an extremely stable construction principle that is also user-friendly. Thus the moon phase can be set using the crown, as can the date on both models, rendering an additional corrector superfluous. In position 1, the crown serves to wind the watch; in position 2, both the date and moon phase can be set; and position 3 permits the owner to set the time of day.

Thanks to its fine-toothed gear, 122 years will pass before the moon phase needs to be corrected by one day. Both models are presented in a 40 MM case of precious red gold or cool stainless steel, both featuring polished and satin-brushed surfaces. A slim bezel and a domed sapphire crystal, reflective on both sides, show the silver-grained dial and its laser-cut, galvanic black hour indexes and matching railroad chapter ring. The stainless steel model has minute numerals laser-cut and galvanised in black, while the red-gold version features them in luminous red.

Blued-steel pear-shaped hands and a filigree seconds hand render both timepieces easily legible, while a black Louisiana alligator leather bracelet and pin buckle confers elegance and comfort.

The manufactory Calibre 36 has an innovative silicon balance spring that assures extreme precision, while a single spring barrel provides a power reserve of more than 100 hours at a frequency of 4 Hertz (28,800 half-oscillations per hour).

There is improved stability in terms of rate precision: a more compact method of construction contributes to stability as does an innovative bayonet mount used to secure the movement in the case.

Every one of these watches is thoroughly tested for 24 days – under conditions even tougher than the demanding German Chronometer certification test. In addition to an engraved seal of quality, each owner of a Senator Excellence is provided with an individual Examination Certificate, while an exclusive online portal gives them the opportunity to review individual test results and to learn about specific test procedures.
