Chopard rules at Cannes 2023

Two high octane names that are inextricably linked together are those of the International Film Festival, an annual film festival held in Cannes, and haute joaillerie and horlogerie brand Chopard. Every year, Chopard, which is the festival’s Official Partner, has its own calendar of annual events held at Cannes, in addition to the unveiling of its Red Carpet collection. In  this article, we bring you the highlights of Chopard’s participation in Cannes 2023

Gentlemen’s Evening
Artfully decorated in the guise of an English gentleman’s club, the Chopard Rooftop at the Martinez Hotel was on May 17, 2023, once again the setting for the Maison’s traditional Gentlemen’s Evening. At the joint invitation of Co-Presidents Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, this annual event celebrates Chopard’s men’s watchmaking collections and the expertise cultivated by its artisans. In keeping with Chopard’s focus on the Arts, a distinguished guest list was treated to a demonstration by two artisans of their crafts, as well as a stunning saxophone performance by musician Jimmy Sax and an enchanting interlude by magician David Jarre – all accompanied by fine food by Cipriani Venice and beverages by Campari.

Paul Dano, Mads Mikkelsen, Brandon Flynn, Shaïn Boumédine, Jacky Ickx, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Caroline Scheufele, Teresa Andrés Gonzalvo, Alejandro Nones, Shaunette Renee-Wilson, Amy Jackson, Ed Westwick, Emmanuelle Béart, Honayda Serafi and Huang Jue were dazzling in Chopard creations.

Trophée Chopard 2023
Trophée Chopard godmother Natalie Portman presented their awards to actress Naomi Ackie and actor Daryl McCormack during an official dinner held on May 19, 2023, at the Carlton Beach Club at the joint invitation of Caroline Scheufele (Co-President of Chopard), Iris Knobloch (President of the Festival) and Thierry Frémaux (General Delegate of the Festival), and in front of esteemed guests from the film world.

ART Evening
Art is the theme that was chosen by Caroline Scheufele for Chopard’s traditional glamorous grande soirée. Held at the Hotel Martinez on May 23, 2023, surrounded by fabulous décor paying tribute to the Arts, the evening also saw the beginning of a new chapter in Chopard’s history with the launch of Caroline’s Couture. Attendees including K-pop group and Chopard Ambassador aespa, Charles Melton, Poppy Delevingne, Kate Beckinsale, Ashley Graham, Song Kang-Ho, Jeon Yeo-Been, Nadine Njeim, William Abadie, Alejandro Nones, Lena Mahfouf and Marina Buy Barbosa – all dressed in Chopard creations – were then the privileged spectators of a fashion show in celebration of Caroline’s Couture.

Caroline’s Couture
Guests were entertained with a magnificent fashion show in which models and friends of Caroline Scheufele revealed the Red Carpet Collection along with 50 stunning couture silhouettes, designed to weave an unprecedented conversation between jewellery and clothing. Paired with shoes by iconic footwear brand Casadei, the collection was highlighted on the catwalk in a glittering display by models Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova and Natalia Vodianova, as well as Caroline Scheufele’s friends Cindy Bruna, Martha Hunt, Loujain, Catrinel Marlon, Petra Nemcova, Shanina Shaik, Emma Weymouth Marchioness of Bath, and Lina Zhang. At the end of an evening filled with incredible surprises, Caroline Scheufele unveiled her final trump card in the form of a spectacular concert by Robbie WIlliams.

Caroline Scheufele has woven a conversation between jewellery and clothing through her fabulous collection composed of 50 couture silhouettes. Within this wardrobe designed to bring fashion and jewellery to life in perfect harmony, elaborate textures evoke gem-setting, delicate artisanal embroidery, as well as fabric structure in total symbiosis with Haute Joaillerie so that clothes and jewellery shine individually while basking in each other’s glow. Resolutely intended to last, the pieces in this first collection are not intended for a single season before becoming obsolete. They can be ordered at any time, year after year, as perfectly proportioned icons within a timeless wardrobe.

Red Carpet Collection
With the Red Carpet Collection, Chopard yearly reaches peak creativity in the jewellery Arts. For the 76th Cannes Festival, held May 16–27, Caroline Scheufele has designed no less than 76 Haute Joaillerie masterpieces, imbued with the theme of ‘Art’. After cinema was the focus of the 2022 collection, the Maison’s Artistic Director extends the inspiration behind the 2023 Red Carpet Collection to the Seven Arts. Architecture, sculpture, painting, music, literature, dance, and cinema: all the nobles forms of human genius are celebrated through fascinating works reflecting Caroline Scheufele’s boundless curiosity.

Any detail from any of the seven arts is enough to spark her dreams of splendid adornments. Witness an incredible ring whose over 127-carat central yellow sapphire is supported by a group of antique-style sculptures carved in gold on a shank set with brilliant-cut diamonds. Not to mention a stunning necklace featuring diamond and sapphire feathers skilfully crafted to form gossamer-light volutes, an ode to literature and a tribute to authors.

Dance is represented by a necklace and matching pair of earrings featuring diamond corollas gracefully evoking the dainty flutter of ballerinas’ tutus. A briolette-cut diamond choker celebrates music with its rows of gems tracing the lines of a musical score. The play on colour in a butterfly ring, an insect often depicted in the decorative arts to symbolise the ephemeral nature of life, appears to recall the play on colours and forms mastered by painters. Architecture is interpreted through an elegant tanzanite necklace distinguished by its clean-cut symmetry and carefully studied proportions. Finally, how could one imagine a celebration of the seven Arts without placing cinema at the heart of the creation? Caroline Scheufele has thus chosen a moon pendant, subtly hinting at the darkness without which it is impossible to fully immerse oneself in the emotions of a feature film. Exceptional gems bring unique vibrancy to this Red Carpet Collection with their colour, volume, transparency, and unmistakable aura.
